This Saturday at the Market, you can make art for a new downtown project

Map shows the future location of the Promenade – across Grand River from Riley Park and just east of the First United Methodist Church.

The Promenade is Downtown Farmington’s next big public space project – transforming the block across Grand River from Riley Park between Thomas Street and Grand River into a vibrant pedestrian hub filled with art and gathering spaces.

Building on Dinan Park and Masons Corner, it’s the third community-driven project for the Downtown Development Authority and the first that speaks to a larger vision that will one day connect all the way to Shiawassee Park.

The Promenade will be a natural extension for community programming at Riley Park, a place to meet and a way to extend Downtown Farmington's energy beyond its core.

Make a Wave – Leave Your Mark
To launch the Promenade’s community art feature, the DDA is teaming up with Farmington’s Fired and Fused to create the city’s first community glass mural that honors the Rouge River, which has shaped our region for generations.

How it Works:

To create your own glass tile, visit the Fired and Fused tent on the north side of Riley Park all through Harvest Moon, including the Farmers Market. Hours will be 6-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The Market is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each patron will create a 3”x6” tile that will be fused into larger panels to create the Promenade mural. Fired and Fused will provide all materials and instructions.

Fused glass tiles for the Promenade project.

Your Contribution:

For a suggested minimum donation of $50, design a tile that will be fused into the mural with hundreds of individual glass “waves” that will form a collective masterpiece. All proceeds will support art and furnishings in this new public space.

Can't make it to Harvest Moon? Stay tuned for more opportunities to make a tile. We’ll add more info about pop-up workshops on DowntownFarmington.org: www.downtownfarmington.org/about_us/projects.php
