The Farmington Farmers Market opened to mostly dry skies and a packed house on Saturday, May 4. The first few cloudy hours were all work: setting up tables, opening tents and unloading flowers, goodies and more. Then festivities started when American Legion Color Guard from the Walker Groves American Legion Post 346 and the North Farmington High School Band marched into the Market. Host Dirk Beamer. a local attorney and longtime Market supporter, welcomed special guests Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II, who grew up in Farmington and graduated from Farmington High School; State Rep. Jason Hoskins; Lauren Burgett, Chief Nursing Officer for Corewell Health; Farmington Mayor Joe LaRussa, and Heather Yanke, who sang the National Anthem. Lt Gov. Gilchrist rang the market bell, and the 31st edition of the award-winning Market roared into action. The Market is open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday from now till November 2.
