Market Manager Walt Gajewski looks back at 2025
“It’s been a long, fast season” would be my answer if you were to ask me how I feel about the market year that just was, as we round out of 2025.
A long season, I’d say, because of 28 weeks of getting up every Saturday at 5 a.m. to a rushed cup of coffee, and bounding out the door with an eye to the sky for a quick check of the weather. The farmers would be trucking in, with morning banter getting under way … don’t wanna miss that!
And a fast season, because, looking back, I cherished every week and still savor the moments, just like I might biting into that first-of-the-season, Michigan-grown juicy Red Haven peach just off the truck, you know. Where did the season go?
Now Winter is decidedly here. The market is closed.
I’m looking forward to a long reflection of the year that was. At times, though, I’ll glance out the window with an eye to the sky, knowing that a new season is coming. Fast.
We open the2026 season on Saturday, May 2. Until next time, here’s saying: “See you at the market.”
Thanks. See you in 2026!
We rang out the 2025 version of the Farmington Farmers Market on Saturday, December 6, with a warmth that defied the frigid temperatures. It was a fine finish to another great season of farm-to-table goodies as well as artisan items.
We’re already well into planning the 2026 Market. For the basic schedule, click here (hint: It’s pretty much the same as it was this year). Over the winter, we’ll share information on related topics, such as composting and how Michigan’s farmers are doing. For now, here’s the most important date to know:
The 2026 Farmington Farmers Market will open May 2, 2026.
We are an award-winning market and a trusted source of healthy, local and sustainable produce. We offer a vibrant marketplace with music and special programs that create a nourishing community connection.
We are open rain or shine or snow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from the first Saturday in May through the first Saturday of November at the Sundquist Pavilion at 33113 Grand River Ave. in downtown Farmington. Click here for map.
Behind the scenes at the Goetz family farm
In this new video, we accompany Market Manager Walt Gajewski as he makes an annual farm visit to the Goetz Greenhouse, a farm near Riga, Michigan, that’s been in the family for generations. You will learn how the farm is able to deliver organically grown produce to the Market every Saturday.
