The Farmington Farmers Market participates in Senior Project Fresh, a statewide program operated in conjunction with the USDA that provides farm-fresh, locally grown produce to seniors.
To qualify, you must be 60 or older, live in Oakland County and have a total household income of $26,973 or less for an individual, or $36,482 for a couple. Proof of income is not required but you will have to sign an application to receive coupons.
On designated Senior Project Fresh dates (see calendar below), Robin Danto of the Oakland County Health Division will be at the Market with booklets of five $5 coupons. (Check at the Market Information Tent for her location.) To receive one, you must register with her by 10 a.m. for a short presentation, after which you will receive the coupon booklet to buy fresh produce from the list below.
The coupons are good at any market, farm stand or vendor that accepts them throughout the state.
Says Robin, "I believe the Senior Market FRESH program has such great value. Not only does it help get fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables into the hands of seniors who need them to maintain their health, but it also improves our economy by supporting local farmers who live, shop and invest in our communities. It also brings awareness of farmers markets and the benefits they provide to our communities and the people who support them."
For more information, contact Robin by emailing dantor@oakgov.com.
